Writing an MBA Essay: Entering the World of the MBA Degree

What is so special about MBA essays? It seems that they are nothing but regular application essays. However, in reality, MBA essays may change your life because your receiving an MBA degree depends on them. Do you need this degree? If you do, you should be able to write perfect MBA essays!

Which MBA essays are accepted by the admission committee?

Imagine for one second that you are a member of the admission committee. What do you expect from the MBA essays? First of all, you do not want them to be boring because you have to look through hundreds of MBA essays where every student tells about his/her past experience and writes how much he/she needs an MBA degree. Follow these guidelines to write a unique MBA essay:

• Pay special attention to your opening sentence. It should be intriguing. This sentence lays the foundation for your essay. If you start with “I wish you to consider my candidature for this program”, the professors reading your MBA essay will think at once “Oh, just another boring How-good-I-am-for-this-program essay.” So, be unique!
• Be careful when writing about your strengths. Do not simply state that you are good at this or that. Write what motivates you and how a particular strength can help you reach your professional and personal goals.
• Communicate with your audience. You can use humor if you are sure that the committee members will understand your jokes. Do not overdo it with rhetoric questions. You are writing your MBA essay to tell about yourself, not to ask the questions you will never get answers for.

Finally, remember that, even if you use humor, your MBA essay should show how serious your intentions regarding the program are.
